1 x 50g ball of Rowan 4 ply Cotton (photographed in pink/Orchid 120)

NEEDLES
Pair of 3mm (UK 11) knitting needles

EXTRAS
2 ribbon rosebuds, 50cm/19-in of 3mm/1/8in wide satin ribbon and 160cm/63in of 1cm/3/8in wide ribbon for ties

TENSION
28 sts and 52 rows to 10cm/4in measured over moss st using 3mm (UK 11) needles or size to obtain correct tension.

SHOES (make 2)
Using 3mm (UK 11) needles, cast on 21 (25: 29) sts.
Row 1 (RS) K1, *P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Row 2 Inc in first st, P1, *K1, P1, rep from * to last st, inc in last st. 23 (27: 31) sts.
These 2 rows form moss st and start shaping.
Work in moss st, inc 1 st at each end of 2nd row and foll 3 (4: 5) alt rows. 31 (37: 43) sts.
Work 1 row, ending with WS facing for next row.
Dec 1 st at each end of next row and foll 4 (5: 6) alt rows. 21 (25: 29) sts.
Work 1 row, ending with WS facing for next row.

Shape heel
Cast on 5 (6: 7) sts at beg of next row. 26 (31: 36) sts.
Inc 1 st at end of 2nd row and foll 4 (5: 6) alt rows. 31 (37: 43) sts.
Work 1 row, ending with WS facing for next row.
Cast off 19 (21: 23) sts at beg and inc 1 st at end of next row. 13 (17: 21) sts.
Work 10 (14: 18) rows, ending with RS facing for next row.
Dec 1 st at beg of next row, then cast on 19 (21: 23) sts at beg of foll row. 31 (37: 43) sts.
Dec 1 st at beg of next row and foll 4 (5: 6) alt rows. 26 (31: 36) sts.
Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.
Cast off in moss st.

Making up
Do NOT press.
Sew together straight row-end edges to form heel seam. Sew upper to sole around shaped edges, easing in fullness.

Edgings (make 2)
Using 3mm (UK 11) needles and M, cast on 4 sts.
Row 1 K1, P3.
Row 2 K1, M1, K1 tbl, M1, sl 1, K1, psso. 5 sts.
Row 3 K1, P2, [K1, P1] twice into next st, P1. 8 sts.
Row 4 Cast off 4 sts (one st on right needle), K1,
M1, sl 1, K1, psso. 4 sts.
These 4 rows form patt.
Work in patt until strip, unstretched, fits around entire foot opening edge of Shoe, ending after patt row 4.
Cast off.

Join cast-on and cast-off ends of Edging, then sew straight row-end edge to foot opening edge of Shoe, matching edging seam to heel seam.

Using photograph as a guide, thread narrower ribbon through edge of Edging, just inside
scalloped edge, joining ends of ribbon at centre back. Sew on ribbon rosebuds to front of foot. Cut wider ribbon into 4 equal lengths. Attach one end of each length to foot opening edge of Shoe approximately 2cm/3/4in forward from heel seam, to form ankle tie.
