Paddles and a pouffe

Paddles and a pouffe

With the uncertainty of Pete's job taking its toll on everyone, he has done what he usually does in stressful situations and gone into DIY mode. We have been trying to make the side garden accessible from the back of the house, giving the children a safe place to play. The previous owners blocked the access with a shed, so I naturally assumed that Pete would remove it and put a fence panel... Read more

When things go wrong

When things go wrong!

Well, when things go wrong, they really go wrong! We have been under pressure for a while and tempers are fraught. We've had our days of 'it's not so bad' and the hope of a harmonious day once in blue moon, but this week was an upsetting one. Pickles, our cat, had been missing for the past 3 weeks and I was worried. I tried very hard to put on a brave face for the kids, explainin... Read more

Countdown to summer

Countdown to summer

Work has been manic in the run up to the end of term and what with working through my lunchtime, I've found I'm becoming quite giddy by the end of the weekday afternoons. The children have been learning new songs and one of them is about knights and ladies, so I wasn't surprised to find that while in charge of a group of children one afternoon, I noticed a couple of them had drawn th... What's new

What's new?

With so much going on for all of us I thought it would be a good idea to do an update on who's doing what and when... if nothing else it will help me get my head straight and hopefully raise a laugh or sympathetic groan if you're going through the same things as our family... Pete's work is still very much undecided and he is up all hours working on tenders at home in an effort to ... Read more

The Audition

Another week has flown by and I must admit it seems to be getting harder and harder to get everything done at home with working all day. I keep hoping I can get on top of it all soon. The key, I think, is to stop dwelling on what I haven't managed to do but what I have managed to do, so with that frame of mind I hope to get through next week on a better note. Saturday was, of course, the A... Read more

A dog's life

A dog's life

I finished my first full week at work and I have to say, I hope I can get used to the tiredness that I felt on Friday! I was a tad gormless, to say the least, by the end of the day and in the afternoon, I ended up getting the giggles for no apparent reason. Once I'd collected Harrison and Mackenna from my sister's, I rushed home to get packed up for the weekend away in the caravan. We bo... Read more

Here we go again!

Here we go again!

It's been so lovely having half-term off, despite all the youthful ructions - but as usual, I wish it hadn't whizzed by so fast. I also managed to rest my toe, after almost having it kicked off on the last day of term! I'd just sat down to teach a particularly fussy group, only to feel the most excruciating pain in my foot. The child opposite me had swung his shoe up at full speed, a... Read more

Unwelcome visitors

Unwelcome visitors

Last week was extremely tiring, for some reason. Most days, I really felt I was struggling to get going. Thank goodness it's half term this week. Having said that, I am back to refereeing the nitwits and trying not to go grey in the process! Please let the weather be OK, so we can get some days outside... It was Mackenna's birthday on Saturday and I knew she wanted her ears pierced, so... Read more

Caravan capers... again

Caravan capers... again

In light of the 'doom and gloom' atmosphere that has been hanging around the past few weeks at home, I decided that since Pete is still working, we should act like nothing's changed and book a weekend away in the caravan. We found a nice site, just under an hour's drive away, that had a heated indoor pool. I felt sure the weather would be rubbish, so this way we would have swimmi... Read more

Driving disasters

The past week has gone by in a blur, with all the usual ups and downs. Weeks ago, Colby had booked her driving theory test for last Tuesday, at 6pm. This, in itself, was going to be a juggle, as this is also McKenna's Irish dancing night. Pete was able to get home at 4pm to run Mackenna over to her dancing and I could then drive Colby the 40 minutes to the test centre. Now, this made me extr... Read more
