December must be one of the busiest times of a mum's year. There is so much to do that it's almost impossible to fit everything in.
This week I watched Harrison play a King in his school nativity. He sang a solo, which was a complete surprise! He hadn't said a word about it. He was so sweet and seemed so innocent that my heart melted. That emotion was rudely ruined a few minutes later when I went to pick him up after school. He decided to smack my behind and run off, leaving me in my usual position of demented mother, screaming for him to come back...
Today it was time for my class's nativity play. I had no idea so much effort went into these productions before I started working in a school. And of course, because you're dealing with 6 and 7 year olds, all the planning in the world can't prevent hiccups! In this case, our Joseph had had a run-in with Mary prior to going on, so he spent the entire time scowling at her. It definitely looked like Joseph wasn't buying the whole immaculate conception theory, that's for sure!
Now that's out of the way, we have a Christingle service to go to then on Friday Mum and Bob arrive. We are still not sure if Madison is coming down to Norfolk, and Colby threw a tantrum this afternoon, over how little she wanted to spend time with us 'plebs' over Christmas. How nice! Oh well, she should be over that feeling by tomorrow with her tumultuous, roller coaster emotions! If not, she can take it up with my Sister Julia who is driving her down on Xmas Eve... oh joy.
The three younger ones are positively giddy and alternate from extremely giggly to floods of tears. Both Pete and I have been left scratching our heads in disbelief -
everyone seems SO emotional. (It's usually Colby's job.) Not only have the younger ones been difficult, but Kelvin has been walking around in a particularly Bah Humbug sort of mood. Goodness knows what's flown up his shirt, but when I get time, I will try to find out why! Everyone is rushing around, trying to get their shopping or card writing done, so we're all a bit like ships passing in the night - albeit grumpy and emotional ones!
