It's been so
lovely having half-term off, despite all the youthful ructions -
but as usual, I wish it hadn't whizzed by so fast. I also
managed to rest my toe, after almost having it kicked off on the
last day of term! I'd just sat down to teach a particularly
fussy group, only to feel the most excruciating pain in my foot.
The child opposite me had swung his shoe up at full speed, and
caught my little toe - almost yanking it off in the process. Tears
of pain streamed down my face, and I tried very hard to muffle my
yelp of "For crying out loud!" but it came out louder
than I intended. As I bent down to stem the flow of blood, the
little boy next to me tugged on my arm and said, "Mrs Crabb,
you said a swear word!" I explained to him through gritted
teeth - THAT was not a swear word, although my head was buzzing
with quite a few real ones!
We have been clearing the bushes in our side garden, in order to
make a place for the children to play, as our back and front
gardens aren't very big. As a surprise, Pete came home with a
trampoline and the children were so excited. Within a couple of
hours, sadly, they'd all been banned from it indefinitely, for
trying to catapult Harry into outer space. Admittedly, he winds
both Callum and Mackenna up endlessly, so I did sympathise with
their intentions, but I couldn't condone it.
Besides, I didn't fancy spending an afternoon in casualty
explaining why my son had been sprung 20ft in the air, over the
neighbour's fence. I'm sure I will let them back on it
again; but I need to be sure that they're no longer plotting.
One good thing has come out of it, though - it has definitely cured
Harry and his annoying ways as Mackenna now only has to whisper the
word "trampoline", and he becomes a wonderfully behaved
little boy!
On Tuesday, I had an unexpected phone call from Iceland, asking me
whether I'd like to go down to London later this month, to
audition for the upcoming Iceland adverts. There will be 18 of us
altogether, vying for three places... so, here we go again. I shall
have to see whether you can buy full vats of Bach's Rescue
Remedy. I am really excited, though it has stirred up all the
feelings of being let down again. Still, it's another chance,
so I feel I've got to give it a go. Poor Pete!
Kelvin is away this week, in Majorca, and my fears about the early
airport run were realised, with him and Cooper needing a lift at
3am on Saturday. Pete ended up taking them, but he said he
didn't mind, as they'd do the same for us... we hope.
Finally, I have had some wonderful news this week - Candis has
decided to keep my blog going for another six months, which is
wonderful! I can continue to vent a portion of my stresses
regularly, so a big thank you to Candis and to everyone who reads
my weekly rambles - and hopefully gets some amusement out of
them!
