Mouse tales

Mouse talesAnother week almost at an end and, as usual, it's full of ups and downs. Callum had his friend over for tea on Tuesday and whilst I was busy clearing away the dinner dishes, the boys came hurtling down the stairs, shouting that there was a mouse in their room! Pete and I bolted up to investigate. Pretty soon, we were all on our hands and knees, pulling out furniture looking for this intrepid creature. As this was going on, Callum's friend, Lee, informed me that he was the first one to notice the mouse - because his eyes began to water and he began to sneeze. It turns out he's allergic to them. I nearly had a fit, as he'd been scuttling along the floor like the rest of us, looking. I was worried that he would swell up so asked Pete to take him home to be on the safe side. Besides the excitement seemed to be over as the mouse had disappeared, so we decided to leave it until it turned up again.

With the children tucked up in bed, I decided to treat myself to a hot shower. No sooner had I stepped one foot in, when complete pandemonium erupted! I quickly chucked my clothes back on, to see Harry hysterical because Bandit had caught the mouse in his mouth. At this point the whole family became involved, with Kelvin grabbing the cat and Cooper trying to prize the mouse out. Bandit feeling he was about to be inadvertently strangled, loosened his grip, and the mouse bolted for freedom - right back into the bedroom.

There was a further 15 minutes of us all grovelling around on the floor looking, I told the children to go to sleep as there was nothing to worry about, but none of them listened. No mouse found, I returned to the shower, only to have the whole scenario play out again. By the time I had thrown my clothes back on this time and staggered out of my bedroom, I was confronted by a very scratched but smiling Cooper, cradling one lucky mouse!

I gave up on the shower, and decided to call my friend to make sure she wasn't sitting in a hospital waiting room somewhere with a swollen-up son instead. Thankfully she wasn't and I collapsed into bed for a blissfully dreamless sleep.
