So much for getting to
grips with the New Year! Not only have we been snowed in, like a
lot of the country, but we've also been dealing with an awful
tummy bug. Callum was first to get it, followed by Mackenna, Harry
and finally me. This lead to each child taking up residence in the
family bathroom with the toilet seat up, in the hope that
they'd manage to throw up in the toilet as opposed to all over
the lid, as Callum managed to do! I thought I had sterilised
everything, so that nobody else caught the dreaded bug- short of
putting a sheep dip at the front door, it was as clean as it could
be, but no, I had to get it next. Last week, I only made it to work
twice, and spent a good half hour circling the school trying to
find somewhere to park- my usual car park hadn't been cleared
of snow, and I couldn't get up or down the drive!
Of course, this weather has slowed down any building repairs that
were being done on Kelvin and Cooper's cottage so
understandably, they're getting a little frustrated. Madison
texted me the other day to say Davy had broken his hand and that
they were in the hospital waiting to be seen. This was the day
before his birthday and so it obviously had put a damper on his
birthday plans. It turns out he had got into a row with Madison, as
young couples do, and he fled outside the house and punched a brick
wall, only to come sheepishly back in 5 minutes later, telling her
he thought he had broken his hand! He was in agony and wasn't
dealt with very quickly at the hospital. They only gave him 2
paracetamol and an ibuprofen, then told him to come back the
following day to get it set. Poor lad, that wouldn't have
helped some of my headaches, let alone a broken bone! I did try to
make light of the situation- we'd been at a loss over what to
buy him for his birthday, so I asked him whether he'd like some
boxing gloves. He works in a warehouse, and this has really made an
impact on his job so I'm not sure what's going to happen
there. Oh well, such is life!!
I had a disturbing phone call from Kyle last week, too, as he has
been having a lot of problems, financially and emotionally and
he's seriously thinking about moving back over here from
Florida where he has lived for the past 4 years. So whilst one
moves out, another will move in! At this rate, we'll be pushing
our Zimmer frames around when the last one moves out. Pete and I
were recently looking through the travel section in the paper, and
we both realised how old we'd be when we were finally able to
go child-free. We concluded that we probably would be lucky enough
to still remember our names on a good day and so quickly put that
'world travel' dream to rest. We shall continue on with our
caravan instead- as long as it still owns two wheels by then,
we'll be fine.
