After the last
few weeks of ups and downs, I was rather hoping that things would
start to calm down a bit. By that, I meant no blown up appliances,
no missing children, no beaten up children, no pieces falling off
my car and no major teenage meltdowns. Well, we seemed to achieve
all of the above and I was beginning to feel hesitantly upbeat
again. We had the bumper repaired on the car and I no longer have
to stare straight ahead to avoid other passing vehicles'
frantic gesticulations alerting me to the (already known)
embarrassing fact.
As it was Colby's 17th birthday on Monday, I took her out for a
meal early on Saturday evening, so she could then go on and
celebrate with her friends - all was well and good there.
On Sunday, we were all off to church, to meet Mackenna and
Pete's confirmation sponsors. It was an extremely long service
and I was grateful that Kelvin had agreed to look after Harry and
Callum back home, so that Harry wouldn't be able to embarrass
anyone with his antics. After the service, everyone gathered to see
the list of sponsors. I was delighted to see that Mackenna's
sponsor was my good friend Susan. However, we couldn't see who
Pete's was. I jokingly said it was probably bully boy's
Mum, never dreaming for a minute that it might be - but yes,
you've guessed it, there in black and white for all to see was
her name paired with Pete's. Thankfully she wasn't actually
at the service, which was probably a good thing, as neither of us
would have been able to hide the look of shock and horror at the
irony of the 'matching'! All I can say is, it will make for
good entertainment on the actual day, although I'm hoping
decorum will rule at the right moments as I don't think I could
face a major tussle at the confirmation font. And I don't think
we'll tell Harry... just in case his inventiveness comes to the
fore and he unveils a wicked plan to embarrass bully boy's Mum!
I would say I can't believe it, but as my Dad used to say,
Sod's law was written with me in mind. Thanks Dad!
