I'm sorry
it's been a while since you heard any news from the Crabb
household. I was struck down by the dreaded swine flu last week and
I've only just got back on my feet! You read about it
everywhere, but never think it'll happen to you. When it did,
it really knocked me off my feet.
Over the weekend, I couldn't get warm, so I knew something was
up. Come Tuesday, after work, I had to lie down on the sofa. I
managed to drive the younger children to school on Wednesday
morning, but came straight back to bed, aching and shaking. Madison
was downstairs with Davey and they weren't being particularly
noisy, but my sense of hearing seemed heightened. Being grumpy, I
texted her from upstairs asking her whether they were planning to
go out- she replied she wasn't intending to, but seeing my
mood, decided it would probably be better if they did!
With them gone, I drifted in and out of consciousness feeling worse and worse. Pete called to check on me, realised I was in no fit state to pick the children up from school, and ended up driving all the way from work to drop them home. And that's what he did all week. He rushed out late one evening to get me Tamiflu to help alleviate my symptoms; unfortunately, I reacted badly and spent the entire following day throwing up. Bless Pete, he cooked dinners, kept the house clean and the children all organised, whilst still going to work - I don't know what I'd have done without him.
Madison called or texted daily (staying at Davey's as it's closer to her work,) but Kelvin was completely oblivious to it all, as he was working in London with no decent phone signal. Colby was at her worst - all I could hear was her arguing with everyone, as I drifted in and out of sleep. Harry made me giggle as he crept into my room and said that Daddy must be mad with Colby, as he'd tried to tell her to use the hand sanitizer as often as possible- but before he could get a word out, she'd blasted abuse in his general direction, so he'd warned the three younger children NOT to tell her about it instead! After that, every time Colby came in, Harry would stand in front of the spray to stop her getting to it. They must have all had enough of her tyrannical behaviour!
Oh well, I'm back to work today and have to face all the homework, meetings, NVQ work, washing, ironing and refereeing.
At least poor Pete can finally get some rest.
