Another week has flown
by and I must admit it seems to be getting harder and harder to get
everything done at home with working all day. I keep hoping I can
get on top of it all soon. The key, I think, is to stop dwelling on
what I haven't managed to do but what I have managed to do, so
with that frame of mind I hope to get through next week on a better
note.
Saturday was, of course, the Audition and I was up at 6am in order
to get ready for the 4 hour drive down. My allotted time slot was
12:45pm and Pete had decided he would go round the British Museum
whilst I was auditioning. Kelvin had very kindly offered to be Mr
Mum for the day and not only had to look after the three younger
children, but had to drive Colby to work at 8am and then drive her
again to a waitressing stint at 7pm!!! He didn't realise all
this was involved once he offered but knew it was too late to back
out after he had opened his mouth!!! Poor Kelvin, but as Pete had
got him to the airport at 3am a couple of weeks ago he didn't
have a leg to stand on!!!
Off we set, my tummy in knots with Pete whistling away.
We arrived at 11:30 and so had a quick walk around before I headed
in to Drill Hall where it was all being held. I met my
'group' of 4 other ladies and we all sat and chatted for a
while trying to ease our nerves. I was, by far, the oldest one out
of the group and felt it almost immediately and so my little bit of
confidence that I had manage to muster up on the way down plummeted
rapidly!! Not that there was any age restriction as I know for a
fact there were older ladies there in the whole group, just not in
my group argh!!
We were then herded into hair and make up and with eyebrows drawn
on similar to Groucho Marx and hair resembling a crash helmet I
nipped to the toilet to try and rearrange my battered appearance!!
Not a good start.....
After this, we were sent to a room where we were to role play, not
so bad, until we were then asked to do some Tai Chi, not so good,
followed by having to walk individually as if on a cat walk, even
worse!! All the while the cameras are rolling along with a panel of
judges looking on. There was a point where I wanted the floor to
open up and swallow me!!
Next, as if I hadn't suffered enough humiliation we were taken
into the wardrobe room where we had to don a 'Spanish'
style skirt, black long sleeve T shirt and black leggings in
preparation for dancing.....what on earth was I going to do???
Surrounded by 4 other young, thin things I was left with a way too
big T shirt and leggings that were beginning to fall down on the
way into the dance room, goodness knows how they would hold up
under any sort of dance moves, my heart pounded. I looked like a
cross between CoCo the clown and Carmen Miranda!!
I lagged behind at the back and as we entered the dance room we
were greeted again by a row of judges who were clapping happily. I
felt they must have looked at me bedraggled at the end wondering if
I had come as some sort of French and Saunders comedy act, I could
have quite happily died right there and then. We then proceeded to
follow a choreographer who taught us very quickly a short salsa
dance and no sooner had he run us through when the music pounded
out and we had to perform for our audience. Surprisingly enough, I
managed most of the dance without messing up too much and don't
think they noticed me subtely yanking up my leggings before I ended
up looking like Nora Batty. Not so lucky with the 'Can Can'
as with all the leg kicking meant I nearly lost them a couple of
times and so I couldn't concentrate on the steps as so much as
my dignity!!
Things then finished off with us all being sat down in a row
individually being asked whether we could sing. At this point I had
lost any ounce of enthusiasm I had and with one girl singing
beautifully and another giving it a try and two others declining I,
when asked, just blurted out 'No, after my last audition I
would only sing at gunpoint in future'!! What the hell did I
say that for????
Anyway, I couldn't get changed fast enough and having said my
goodbyes, bolted out of there as fast as I could to meet up with
Pete.
Suffice it to say, everyone is getting a phone call on Wednesday to
see if they have been chosen to be the lucky ones to appear in the
TV commercials, it will be a complete miracle if I have got
through, so for now it is back to teaching assistant I go with
Hollywood having to wait a little while longer.....not!!
I couldn't wait to get home and arrived back to my family all
asleep, safe and sound with Kelvin being the star of the day!
