What a week
it's been so far! Yesterday, I was roped into working an
afternoon shift as well as the normal day - and having run around
like a nut all morning, I found I'd been allocated to the
nursery part of the school for the remainder of the day. I was
lucky not to stagger out tied up, with a feather in my hair! My
goodness - I was spinning as many plates as I possibly could and
came out of there a gibbering wreck.
I arrived home a few minutes after 4pm, when Callum usually gets
home, due to waiting around for Mackenna to finish gym club and I
expected to see him waiting in the driveway. No sign of him. Oh
well, I thought, his bus must be late. So, after unpacking all the
bags, lunch boxes, coats and PE bags, I started to whizz round
doing the housework, before putting on the tea. Till I noticed it
was now 4.30 and there was still no sign of him. I tried the
school, to see if they knew of any bus delays, but got the answer
phone. I then called my friend over in the neighbouring village,
whose son is Callum's best friend, to see if he had got home
yet - he had.
He had seen Callum walk out of school towards his bus, he thought.
Well, my heart started racing and I began to feel a bit sick. I
called the bus company - they were not running late and
couldn't remember anyone seeing him get on or off. It was after
5pm now. I was beginning to play out all sorts of scenarios in my
head, and getting myself in a right state. It was then that
Mackenna had a brainwave and suggested he may have gone up to the
neighbours' house round the corner and she sped off to find
out. Shortly afterwards, the neighbour came down, as calm as
anything, to say yes he was there, playing on the X-box. She said
she'd insisted he go there, rather than stand in the cold and
had meant to come down and tell me, but got side tracked! She saw I
was a bit pale and so decided to go and get Callum, ASAP. He
apologised profusely and I think seeing me looking so frazzled made
him stop and think about what he'd put me through. I only
managed to stop shaking about an hour later, after a glass of wine!
And it didn't stop there. This morning, in my manic rush, I had
grabbed the spare car key set that doesn't have the housekey
on. Consequently, I arrived home with all the kids and Callum's
friend Lee, only to find we couldn't get in. Ooh, I was so mad
at myself, I could have cried! I sent Callum round the back, in the
small hope that I had forgotten to lock the sliding doors. It was
no mean feat either - you have to climb over the roof of the shed
to access our back garden - but of course, they were locked. So, as
it was freezing, I had no option but to call Pete, with my tail
between my legs, and ask him whether he could come home a little
earlier than usual! We all scrambled back into the car and sat
humiliated, as various neighbours walked by staring, wondering what
on earth we were all doing in the drive, with the shopping on the
front door step! Poor Lee is the same child who has the mouse
allergy, I am beginning to think he might be put off ever coming to
our house again!
With all this in mind, things have not been great on the home
front; with Pete worrying about no work coming in, Madison has yet
to find another job since her part time job came to an end at Xmas,
Kelvin hates his job and is desperately unhappy, I'm rushed off
my feet all the time and things are breaking left and right.
Pete has now come to the conclusion that this has all happened
since we put our huge old Chinese rug into the house. Crazy as it
sounds, we had this rug in our house in Devon, which had tons of
problems. We've had it rolled up in our garage ever since we
moved - until we recently decided to get it out and make use of it.
Well, since then, everything has gone pear shaped and so last
night, Pete rolled it up and lugged it back into the garage!
Desperate times call for desperate measures, so we'll see how
the rest of the week goes...
