Welcome to the Candis Blog feature. Meet Melanie and her family and keep up to date with her musings of family life as mum of seven.
December must be one of the busiest times of a mum's year. There is so much to do that it's almost impossible to fit everything in. This week I watched Harrison play a King in his school nativity. He sang a solo, which was a complete surprise! He hadn't said a word about it. He was so sweet and seemed so innocent that my heart melted. That emotion was rudely ruined a few minutes lat... Well, so far, we haven't had any unwanted ball invitations, so fingers crossed, we won't. Unless Pete has just not said anything yet! Anyway, we celebrated Kelvin's 22nd birthday last Saturday and treated him and Cooper to Pizza Hut, with the intention of going bowling afterwards. However, there weren't any lanes available before 10:30 pm, so we decided to give bingo a try. None ... Read more

It seems like the weeks have flown by, with Christmas almost on our doorstep. I haven't got much shopping done and need to get that sorted as soon as possible, before there's the usual panic. It's also the time of year when party invitations are sent out, which makes me cringe because of one fateful event three years ago. Pete and I, along with Pete's boss and wife, were invite... I have just returned from the dreaded school open evening for Mackenna and Harrison, and was pleasantly surprised. Not so much by Mackenna, because she is so enthusiastic about school and tries so hard. No, it was more with regard to little Harry. I was fully expecting to go in full of apologies for him, but was completely gob-smacked when his teacher said he was quiet and well behaved most of t... Read more

I had rather an interesting Sunday evening as I was invited to a psychic reading party. I was a little apprehensive, but slightly excited at the same time. The psychic was able to describe a teenage daughter with short, dark hair who storms through the house, slamming doors, whilst winding all the younger children up. My goodness, either Colby's reputation precedes her or the woman was truly... Read more

I have finally decided to not give the Christmas operation any more thought, as plans seem to change daily, with constantly differing work schedules and conflicting personalities. In order to prevent a complete nervous breakdown, I thought it best to delay any more plan-making until closer to the time, and I feel much better now! We had quite a scare last week though, as my Mum was rushed back i... Read more

I've been slowly easing myself back into the everyday hustle and bustle, and must admit, it's taking me longer than I thought. I feel like I'm in a dream part of the time and just hope it clears soon, before people start to notice! We are well and truly on the run-up to Christmas now, and I'm starting to panic a bit - because despite all my earlier good intentions, I haven't ... Read more

I'm sorry it's been a while since you heard any news from the Crabb household. I was struck down by the dreaded swine flu last week and I've only just got back on my feet! You read about it everywhere, but never think it'll happen to you. When it did, it really knocked me off my feet. Over the weekend, I couldn't get warm, so I knew something was up. Come Tuesday, after wor... Read more

We have been busy around the house this week, doing the odd job here and there, but aware that the hallway way is still in desperate need of a paint. Pete dislikes painting as much as I do, given the huge amount we've done in the past, and so when Colby asked if there were any jobs she could do to waive the rent money that she'd already 'inadvertently' spent, we jumped at the cha... What a week it's been again! I'm so glad that it's now half term and I can get a chance to catch up with all the jobs I can't get finished during term time, like painting the hallway... First of all, Madison celebrated her 18th birthday midweek and organised a night out with all her friends, intending to meet up with her boyfriend Davey later on. Pete and I went to bed, not wor...
