What they do:Provide specialised end-of-life care and support to patients and their families, friends and carers.
The hospice is developing its home care team to ensure patients can be cared for in their own homes, around the clock, every day of the year. The money raised will fund the annual costs of one of its senior trained nurses who will provide this vital end-of-life care, ensuring patients are as comfortable as possible in the time they have left.

The Shakespeare Hospice
What they do:Provide care and support for the seriously ill.
To fund nearly 100 Hospice at Home nursing visits to dying patients and their families. The hospice’s nurses have specialist end-of-life skills and experience, which help them control pain and other symptoms while giving sensitive emotional support to the patient, their carer and family. Hospice at Home provides out-of-hours support and night sits, so patients and families can rely on the team at any time of day. 100 visits would provide care for approximately ten families.

The charity intends to build a respite centre (Maypole House), which will allow adults with learning disabilities to have short breaks away from home, in a safe, residential environment.
The money raised will be used to build the foundations for the new six-bed centre where users will be able to widen their experiences, develop a wider circle of friends and learn to live more independently.

Provide specialist care for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses.
To fund all the clinical care on the inpatient unit during Christmas week. This will cover the costs of all the nurses who do so much to ensure patients’ quality of life at this time of year. They will sit with patients who have no family, open presents with them and help them feel loved and cared for at Christmas. They will also control patients’ pain and symptoms so they can enjoy Christmas in comfort and with dignity, and support patients’ partners when the emotional toll becomes too much for them to bear.

Employing a music therapist who will provide sessions for adults and children at the hospice. Music therapy provides a safe way to approach difficult issues, enabling those who struggle to express themselves verbally to release uncomfortable and upsetting feelings. It can also help evoke memories and promote relaxation, which are both important for those living with a terminal illness.

Provide respite and hospice care for 18-40 year olds with life-limiting conditions.
Employment of a new healthcare assistant for 12 months who will provide respite sessions for life-limited adults in their own homes. This allows the patient to lead a fuller life by being able to go out and access their community and be independent of their parents. It also allows their parents and carers to have a much-needed break. The service ensures there’s a smooth transition between having a life-limiting illness, and needing end-of-life care.

Care for children up to the age of 19 who have life-limiting conditions and are unlikely to reach adulthood. The services include day, short break and end-of-life care, plus therapeutic play.
To fully fund a nurse for one year at the hospice. The nurses working at Haven House are skilled to the highest level and experts in clinical care. Each child has an individually tailored care plan to ensure his or her needs are being met.

Provide specialised nursing care to people suffering from serious progressive illnesses.
Carry out an urgent roof repair at the hospice’s community building, securing the services for a minimum of ten years. The building provides a hub for community support, hosting inpatients, day care, family support, complementary therapies and a community cafe. The project will involve close collaboration with local schools and businesses, promoting community ownership.
