Justin Ryan interview

Justin RyanTV designer JUSTIN RYAN, 42, lives with his partner, Colin McAllister, 43. They are currently presenting Colin and Justin's Home Heist and have a new Matalan collection available next month.

What's your ideal day off?

A long lie-in (anything beyond 6am is a bonus with the way we dash around), then lunch at The Wolseley, our favourite London restaurant. Sated, it'll be shopping on Bond Street next and then perhaps the movies. If we're in Glasgow, we'll catch up with friends and family and if we're at home in Toronto, we'll go on a long, slow bike ride around Lake Ontario and then watch the sun go down from our rooftop patio. Gorgeous!

What's your secret skill that surprises people?

Being an utter Francophile, I speak fluent French. And I reckon
that I'm a pretty tidy cook - my candlelit suppers have become the stuff of folklore.

What would you do if you were Prime Minister?

I'd remove the need for charities to exist by properly funding everything that needs funding. So many selfless people work so hard for others, because the Government can't find the money needed to do what it should be doing.

What makes you laugh?

Ironic, observational humour. I LOVE French and Saunders and I really loved the first couple of seasons of Little Britain. But NOT the American version - to me it lost
so much as it crossed the pond.

What's your earliest memory?

I remember sharing a fried egg sarnie with my Dad. I must have been about two or three and it was in the back garden of our home in Fort William. Isn't it weird the things that remain in our minds? To this day I still LOVE an egg sandwich.
