TV presenter
Melinda Messenger, 39, lives in Reading with her husband Wayne and
three children - Morgan, 10, Flynn, 8, and Evie, 6. This Christmas
she will be playing the genie in Aladdin at The Churchill Theatre,
Bromley
What's your happiest memory?
I remember rolling down the sand dunes with my brothers in Oxwich
Bay, South Wales. We'd spend all day there in the sun and then
have a barbecue on the beach. Now I love doing the same thing with
my own kids. You can't beat a family day out.
What's your secret talent?
I'm a very good A-Z reader. I could have done The Knowledge and
been a taxi driver! Sadly we have satnav now so my skill is
redundant!
How do you relax?
I find it easy to relax so it's never an issue. I have a swing
chair on my porch, so I sit there with a cup of tea and watch our
bird table. And when the kids are in bed, I like curling up in
front of the log fire with a book.
What makes you cry?
Everything! I cry with happiness and with sadness. The other day
the kids were doing a little Michael Jackson dance - they were so
into it and looked so happy, I cried. I also cried when I was
filming Cowboy Builders for Channel Five. There were some truly
awful situations - one family actually separated because of the
pressure of having their home ruined. Tears of joy are a lovely
thing, though.
Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Somebody once said I look a bit like Reese Witherspoon in Walk The
Line, so I'd go with her - she's a brilliant actress, a
very flattering comparison.
What do you love and hate about Christmas?
I love everything about it, except cooked sprouts. I love eating
raw vegetables, but when cooked the texture is horrible. And I
don't like cooked peas. It's the hard shell - I get a
little shiver in my teeth!
