"I can't help my
daughter through her distress"
My 17-year-old daughter told me that, when she was 13, my
friend's husband abused her. I reported it to the police and
they found two other victims. Nearly two years later my daughter
was told by the CPS that they would have to drop her charges as
they had plea bargained for the man to plead guilty to the other
charges. We were devastated.
My daughter later told me that she had got pregnant and he had beat
her to make her lose the child. I just cannot get over what went on
right under my nose. That child would have been my grandchild and I
grieve for itand yet it was a part of him also. Now my poor girl
self harms and has bulimia and post-traumatic stress disorder, and
I feel I can never move on because the injustice is so great.

You're both suffering from stress and I think counselling could help. I understand your need to see this man called to account but the main thing now is to limit the damage he has done to you both.
