you make New Year's resolutions?Amanda: "I always make
them without fail and encourage my family and friends to make them.
The New Year gives the sense of a fresh start and I like to begin
each
year with a positive plan of what I want to achieve."
Lisa: "I make them every year and there's
really only one that I haven't managed to keep, which is giving
up smoking. But I personally think we should make resolutions
weekly or daily because constantly doing something positive makes
you feel good about yourself.
Angela: "I totally disagree - I think you are
setting yourself up for a fall when making resolutions. When the
new year begins you have got all these good intentions, but just
two or three weeks later when it's cold outside and the
Christmas bills are coming in, you lose enthusiasm, your
resolutions drop by the wayside and you end up feeling like a
failure. I think if you make small resolutions at other times of
the year you're more likely to keep them, because it takes away
some of the pressure."
What is the point of making resolutions?
Lisa: "They should be about doing things for others
and bettering yourself, because we can all benefit from being
conscious of who we are and from being kind."
Amanda: "It could be a mixture of all of them - if you decide
to give something up you're presumably doing that for health
reasons, so that would be improving yourself."
Angela: "I think resolutions are all about
empowerment, trying to boost your confidence and take control of
your life."
What have you made resolutions about in the past?
Amanda: "My New Year's resolution last year was
to get a new job which I did, and I completely
changed my career. I suppose if you were cynical you would say,
'Well if you didn't like your job you would do that
anyway,' but last January I wrote myself a list of things I
wanted to achieve in 2010 and top of the list was to get a new job
- having that resolution really helped me to maintain my
focus."
Have your say!
