Take in the very best Dorset has to offer on a three-night Candis Club walking holiday - ONLY £195 per person
From the
glistening waters of the Dorset coast to the rich vegetation of the
New Forest, you can discover magnificent landscapes with the help
of our experienced walking guides. Not only are these areas blessed
with natural beauty, they also play a significant part in British
history, with the New Forest being a former hunting ground of
William the Conqueror and fossils from the Dorset coast tracing
back millions of years. The breathtaking Jurassic coast has
everything to offer from harbours, long sandy beaches, hidden coves
and dramatic cliff-top formations, while the New Forest has open
spaces, forest glades and tranquil footpaths to explore.
ITINERARY
Friday: Make your way to The Suncliffe Hotel,
Bournemouth. Guests can check in from 2pm.
Later, meet your
fellow Candis Club members in the bar for a welcome drink, followed
by dinner.
Saturday: After breakfast we are taken by coach to
Studland. As we follow the Dorset Coast Path we walk to the chalk
ridge known as Ballard Down, passing Old Harry Rocks - two chalk
stacks which are part of the 'Jurrasic Coast' UNESCO World
Heritage Site. Following the coastline, we come to the seafront of
Swanage where we take a break for lunch. You then have the choice
of enjoying leisure time in Swanage or continuing the walk around
Peveril Point along the coastal path to Durlston Country Park,
which has 280 acres to explore. From here we return to our hotel
for dinner. This walk is typical of a coastal walk and may be
challenging in places; the ground will be hilly and uneven and
covers approximately seven miles (4 miles in morning and optional 3
miles in the afternoon).
Sunday: After your breakfast we are taken to
Hatchet Pond near Beaulieu, one of the biggest ponds in the New
Forest. Walking through old enclosures of ancient and ornamental
woods we come to Furzey Lodge and then on through Tantant Wood to
Pigbush. Crossing the railway line we see Beaulieu Road Station
where the pony sales are held before stopping at the Beaulieu Road
Inn for lunch. You then have the choice of exploring Beaulieu at
leisure or continuing the walk to Decoy Farm and King's
Passage. Here we explore the forest before returning to Beaulieu
then back to our hotel for dinner. Today's walk will be less
challenging as the New Forest offers a flatter terrain and covers
approximately 6¾ miles (4½ miles in morning and optional
2¼ miles in the afternoon).
Monday: After breakfast it will be time to check
out of our hotel and begin your independent journey home, maybe
taking in some more of the fabulous scenery on the way.
