Ladies Medium (to fit head circumference 22cm/8.5in)
NEEDLES
6mm (no 4) (US 10) circular needle – 80cm/30in or longer for magic loop
Optional: Set of five DPNs or two circular needles
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
TENSION
7 sts and 17 rows to 10x10cm/4x4in measured over Moss st (in the round) using 6mm (no 4) (US 10) needles.
SPECIAL STITCH PATTERN
Moss St pattern: *K1, P1; rep to end.
Repeat on every rnd for pattern.
SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
SKPSSO: Slip one st knitwise, k1, pass slipped stitch over (one st decreased).
PATTERN NOTES
Use the stitch marker to mark beginning of new rounds.
If using a circular needle, use the ‘magic loop’ technique. If unfamiliar with this technique, use 2 circular needles or a set of five double pointed needles for working in the round.
BELLA BOWS BEANIE
Using 6mm (US 10) needles and yarn A cast on 61 sts, using an elastic cast on.
Rnds 1-10: Work in Moss St patt.
Rnd 11: K2tog, knit to end of rnd.
Work in St st (knit every rnd) until piece measures 23cm/9in from cast on edge.
Next rnd: *K8, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: Knit.
Next rnd: *K7, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: Knit.
Next rnd: *K6, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: Knit.
Next rnd: *K5, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: *K4, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: *K3, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: *K2, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: *K1, skpsso; rep to end.
Next rnd: Skpsso to end. 6 sts remain.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn through remaining stitches, pull to close and fasten off.
BOW
Make 1.
Using 6mm (US 10) needles and yarn B, cast on 5 sts.
Work in Moss St pattern until piece measures 30cm/12in.
Cast off and weave in ends.
Lie Moss st ribbon flat. Fold 10cm/4in from the RH side over the middle, fold 10cm/4in from LH side over the middle. Using yarn B, securely tie the bow together in the middle. Fan out the ends to create bow shape.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to secure bow to beanie.
MAKING UP
Using 30cm/12in of yarn A and the tapestry needle, create the gathers as follows:
Insert the tapestry needle under one st at the start of the st st section, and bring back through to the WS. Miss 2.5cm/1in and take needle under another st and bring needle back through to the WS.
Continue loosely stitching until you reach the first decrease row.
Turn and sew loosely back to the moss st headband, running this stitching parallel to but approx 1.25cm/½in apart from the first line.
Pull the two ends of yarn A until desired gathers are achieved, tie ends together securely and weave in ends.
Securely attach bow to base of gathers. Weave in ends.
Lightly block if required.
BELLA BOWS GLOVES
Using 6mm (US 10) needles and yarn A cast on 27 sts, using an elastic cast on.
Rnds 1-19: Work in Moss St patt.
Rnd 20: (K6, k2tog) 3 times, K3.
Rnds 21-29: Knit.
THUMBHOLE
Rows 30-36: Working flat now, work in st st (knit a row, purl a row). At end of row 36, pm and join to work in the round.
FINGERS
Rnd 37: K2tog, knit to end.
Rnd 38: Knit.
Rnds 3-57: Work in Moss st patt.
Cast of in patt using an elastic cast off.
BOW
Make 2.
Worked as for Bella Beanie.
MAKING UP
Weave in ends.
Attach one bow to each glove, securing in the centre with the long tail, and small sts on each side and tail section if desired.
Lightly block if required.
