Materials

YARN

Gedifra Riana Big (50% wool, 45% polyacryl, 5% viscose), 33yd [30m], 1¾oz [50g]; 12¼ oz [350g], 231yd [210m] in mauve, color 03645.

NEEDLES
Size 17 [12mm] needles; size 17 [12mm] circular needle, 16" [40cm] long or one set size 17 [12mm] double-pointed needles (dpns); 1 extra large tapestry needle.

Approx. 10¼" [26cm] wide.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN KNITTING...
make a gauge swatch. Use the recommended needles, yarns and pattern stitch for your gauge swatch. It should measure approx. 4¾" x 4¾" [12 cm x 12 cm]. Cast on and bind off rows, as well as selvage stitches should not be included in the measurement. Pin your swatch and block with a damp towel as you would the finished pieces of the garment. Count stitches and rows over 4" [10 cm].

- If you have too many stitches and rows, switch to larger needles.
- If you have too few stitches and rows, switch to smaller needles.

Instructions

Rib pattern

k2, p2.
ST ST
k on RS; p on WS.
GAUGE
10 sts and 13 rows = 4" [10cm] in rib pattern, slightly stretched.
CAPELET
worked side to side. With smooth waste yarn, cast on 28 sts. Change to main yarn.
Beg with a RS row and working first 2 sts after selvage st as k sts, work in rib pattern for 2 rows.
Next (RS) row: work short rows as foll: * work 23 sts, turn, yo, work to end.
Next (WS) row: work in rib pattern as established, k2tog tbl the yo tog with next st to prevent hole.
Next (RS) row: work in rib pattern as established. Repeat from * to end of work.
Work until piece measures approx. 48" [122cm] at right edge, approx. 24½" [62cm] at left edge. Do not bind off.
Carefully pull out waste yarn and place sts on needle. Graft live sts tog with kitchener st.

With circular needle or dpns, pick up and k 52 sts along shorter [left] edge.
Work in rib pattern for 9¾" [25cm]. Bind off all sts loosely.
Cut 4 strands of yarn, each approx. 94½" [240cm] long.
Thread tapestry needle with these 4 strands. * Bring threaded needle out from back to front just below second k2 rib from top, then insert needle over k2 rib and up approx. 8 rows. Repeat from * around. Weave in yarn ends on WS.
