Coat: 31/4 mm (UK 10) circular needle. 1m of narrow ribbon.
Tension
22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
DRESS
BACK
Upper Trim With 4 mm needles, cast on 72 [87, 102, 117] sts.
Row 1 - (RS), K1, yfwd, *K5, lift 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts on right needle over first st and off right needle, yfwd; rep from * to last st, K1.
Row 2 - P1, *(P1, yon, K1 tbl) into next yfwd, P1; rep from * to end (61 [73, 85, 97] sts).
Row 3 - K2, K1 tbl, *K3, K1 tbl; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 4 - Knit.
Break yarn and leave sts on a holder.
Main Section
With 4 mm needles, cast on 77 [92, 107, 122] sts.
Work rows 1 to 3 as for Upper Trim (65 [77, 89, 101] sts).
Rows 4 to 6 - Knit.
Starting with a K row, work in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of 3rd and foll 6th row (61 [73, 85, 97] sts).
Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.
Join Upper Trim
Holding WS of Upper Trim against RS of Main Section, K tog first st of Upper
Trim with first st of Main Section, *K tog next st of Upper Trim with next st of Main Section; rep from * to end.
Starting with a P row, work in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of 4th and every foll 6th row until 51 [57, 63, 69] sts rem.**
Cont straight until Back meas 17 [23, 29, 35] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row - (RS), K3 [2, 1, 4], yfwd, K2tog, *K2, yfwd, K2tog; rep from * to last 2 [1, 0, 3] sts, K2 [1, 0, 3].
***Cont in stocking st until Back meas 20 [27, 34, 41] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape armholes
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows (45 [51, 57, 63] sts).
Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 2 [3, 4, 5] alt rows (35 [39, 43, 47] sts).****
Cont straight until armhole meas 5 [6, 7, 8] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.
Divide for back opening
Next row - (RS), K17 [19, 21, 23], turn and work this side first.
Cont straight until armhole meas 10 [11, 12, 13] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape shoulder
Cast off 3 [4, 4, 5] sts at beg of next row, then 4 [4, 5, 5] sts at beg of foll alt row.
Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.
Break yarn and leave rem 10 [11, 12, 13], sts on a holder.
With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, K2tog, patt to end.
Cont straight until armhole meas 10 [11, 12, 13] cm, ending with WS facing for next row.
Shape shoulder
Cast off 3 [4, 4, 5] sts at beg of next row, then 4 [4, 5, 5] sts at beg of foll alt row, ending with RS facing for next row.
Break yarn and leave rem 10 [11, 12, 13] sts on a holder.
FRONT Work as for Back to **.
Cont straight until 14 [14, 16, 16] rows less have been worked than on Back to start of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape neck
Next row - (RS), K14 [15, 17, 18], turn and work this side first.
Dec 1 st at neck edge of next 4 rows, then on foll 3 [3, 4, 4] alt rows (7 [8, 9, 10] sts).
Work 3 rows, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape shoulder
Cast off 3 [4, 4, 5] sts at beg of next row.
Work 1 row. Cast off rem 4 [4, 5, 5] sts.
With RS facing, slip centre 7 [9, 9, 11] sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts, K to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings, working an extra row before start of shoulder shaping.
MAKE UP Press carefully following instructions on ball band. Join shoulder seams.
Neck Border
With RS facing and using 31/4 mm needles, K 10 [11, 12, 13] sts on left back holder, knit up 14 [14, 16, 16] sts down left side of neck, K 7 [9, 9, 11] sts on front holder, knit up 14 [14, 16, 16] sts up right side of neck, then K 10 [11, 12, 13] sts on right back holder (55 [59, 65, 69] sts).
Work in garter st for 2 rows, ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off knitways (on WS).
Back Opening Border
With RS facing and using 31/4 mm needles, starting and ending at top of Neck Border, knit up 18 sts down right side of back opening, then 18 sts up left side of back opening (36 sts).
Row 1 - (WS), K14, (K2tog) twice, K14 (34 sts).
Row 2 - K1, K2tog, yfwd (to make a buttonhole), K12, (K2tog) twice, K15.
Cast off rem 32 sts knitways (on WS).
Armhole Borders (Both alike)
With RS facing and using 31/4 mm needles, knit up 50 [54, 58, 64] sts evenly all round armhole edge.
Work in garter st for 2 rows, ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off knitways (on WS).
Join side and Armhole Border seams. Sew on button. Thread ribbon through eyelet row below armholes and tie ends in a bow at centre front.
COAT
BACK Work as for Back of Dress to **.
Work as for Back of Dress from *** to ****.
Cont straight until armhole meas 10 [11, 12, 13] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape shoulders
Cast off 3 [4, 4, 5] sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 4 [4, 5, 5] sts at beg of foll 2 rows.
Break yarn and leave rem 21 [23, 25, 27] sts on a holder.
LEFT FRONT
Upper Trim With 4 mm needles, cast on 32 [42, 47, 57] sts.
Work rows 1 to 3 as for Upper Trim of Back (29 [37, 41, 49] sts).
Row 4 - Knit, inc [dec, inc, dec] 1 st at centre of row (30 [36, 42, 48] sts).
Break yarn and leave sts on a holder.
Main Section
With 4 mm needles, cast on 37 [47, 52, 57] sts.
Work rows 1 to 3 as for Upper Trim of Back (33 [37, 45, 49] sts).
Rows 4 to 6 - Knit, dec [inc, dec, inc] 1 st at centre of last row (32 [38, 44, 50] sts).
Starting with a K row, work in stocking st, dec 1 st at beg of 3rd and foll 6th row (30 [36, 42, 48] sts).
Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.
Join Upper Trim
Holding WS of Upper Trim against RS of Main Section, K tog first st of Upper Trim with first st of Main Section, *K tog next st of Upper Trim with next st of Main Section; rep from * to end.
Starting with a P row, work in stocking st, dec 1 st at beg of 4th and every foll 6th row until 25 [28, 31, 34] sts rem.
Cont straight until 10 [12, 16, 18] rows less have been worked than on Back to start of armhole shaping, ending with RS facing for next row. Shape front slope
Dec 1 st at end of next and foll 3 [2, 1, 0] alt rows, then on 0 [1, 3, 4] foll 4th rows (21 [24, 26, 29] sts).
Work 3 [3, 1, 1] rows, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape armhole
Cast off 3 sts at beg and dec 1 [1, 0, 0] st at end of next row (17 [20, 23, 26] sts).
Work 1 row.
Dec 1 st at armhole edge of next 3 rows, then on foll 2 [3, 4, 5] alt rows and at same time dec 1 st at front slope edge of 3rd [3rd, next, next] and 1 [1, 2, 3] foll 4th rows (10 [12, 13, 14]
sts).
Dec 1 st at front slope edge only on 4th [2nd, 2nd, 4th] and every foll 4th row until 7 [8, 9, 10] sts rem.
Cont straight until Left Front matches
Back to start of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape shoulder
Cast off 3 [4, 4, 5] sts at beg of next row.
Work 1 row. Cast off rem 4 [4, 5, 5] sts.
RIGHT FRONT Work to match Left Front, reversing shapings, working an extra row before start of armhole and shoulder shaping.
SLEEVES
Upper Trim With 4 mm needles, cast on 42 [42, 42, 47] sts.
Work rows 1 to 3 as for Upper Trim of
Back (37 [37, 37, 41] sts).
Row 4 - Knit, dec 1 [0, 0, 1] st at each
end of row (35 [37, 37, 39] sts).
Break yarn and leave sts on a holder.
Main Section
With 4 mm needles, cast on 32 [37, 37, 42] sts.
Work rows 1 to 3 as for Upper Trim of Back (29 [33, 33, 37] sts).
Rows 4 to 6 - Knit, dec 0 [1, 0, 1] st at each end of last row (29 [31, 33, 35] sts).
Starting with a K row, work in stocking st, inc 1 st at each end of 3rd [3rd, 3rd, 5th] and foll 4th [4th, 6th, 0] row (33 [35, 37, 37] sts).
Work 3 [3, 1, 5] rows, inc 1 [1, 0, 1] st at each end of last of these rows and ending with RS facing for next row (35 [37, 37, 39] sts).
Join Upper Trim
Holding WS of Upper Trim against RS of Main Section, K tog first st of Upper
Trim with first st of Main Section, *K tog next st of Upper Trim with next st of Main Section; rep from * to end.
Starting with a P row, work in stocking st, inc 1 st at each end of 4th [6th, 4th, 6th] and every foll 6th row until there are 39 [43, 47, 47] sts.
56 cm size: Inc 1 st at each end of every foll 8th row until there are 51 sts.
All sizes: Cont straight until Sleeve meas 12 [15, 19, 23] cm, ending with
RS facing for next row.
Shape top
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows (33 [37, 41, 45] sts).
Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 rows, then on foll 7 alt rows, then on every row until 11 sts rem, ending with RS facing for next row.
Cast off rem 11 sts.
MAKE UP Press carefully following instructions on ball band.
Join shoulder seams.
Front Border
With RS facing and using 31/4 mm circular needle, starting and ending at lower edge of Main Section, knit up 37 [51, 64, 77] sts up right front opening edge to start of front slope shaping, and 40 [46, 52, 58] sts up right front slope, K 21 [23, 25, 27] sts on back holder, knit up 40 [46, 52, 58] sts down left front slope to start of front slope shaping, then 37 [51, 64, 77] sts down left front opening edge (175 [217, 257, 297] sts).
Work in garter st for 2 rows, ending with WS facing for next row.
Cast off knitways (on WS).
Join side seams. Join sleeve seams. Insert Sleeves. Cut ribbon into 2 equal lengths and attach to front opening edges level with start of front slope shaping.
