Christmas is coming... and also, no doubt, a flurry of depressing, guilt-inducing news stories, which rain on your figgy pud before you've even lit it. The health police will warn that Christmas shopping raises blood pressure to 'dangerous levels'.

Nutrition experts will tell us we'll get 5lb fatter. Statistics will reveal that every year, 1,000 people wake up in hospital after a tussle with a Christmas tree - sharing a ward, presumably, with the other 1,000 injured by a wayward bauble. And come the new year, 20 per cent of us will divorce our other half. Well, we say bah! to all that. Here are seven excellent reasons to embrace everything the festive season has to offer - even the 'bad' stuff...
