Family health: Crash diets are not sustainable

People wanting to improve their family's health should not rely on crash diets, according to one expert who said that as soon as people begin to eat normally again they put on weight.

Rich Leigh, weight loss expert and founder of fatfreefitness.co.uk, said that older women are just as susceptible as younger ones to being lured into starting a crash diet, which is ultimately ineffective.

"Crash diets work for a very limited time. As soon as you start eating normally again, your metabolism is lower and then you start putting on the weight. The older ones are often the worst," he said.

The expert added that children need to be educated about the dangers of faddy diets and he said teenage boys should not be ignored when diet advice is being given out at schools.

Girlguiding UK recently stated that among 16 to 21 year old girls, cosmetic surgery is widely accepted as an option for making positive changes to their appearance.
