The world of marketing has lost touch with what consumers want, according to one expert who said that they need to have a more human approach to their work in order to win them back.
Jason Falls, a social media consultant and blogger on SocialMediaExplorer.com, said that marketers have relied for too long on out-dated methods of communication with consumers during their family life.
"The challenge is two-fold: First, marketers have forgotten how to have conversations with consumers because they've been taught for decades to yell at them," he said.
Mr Falls added that some marketers are struggling to come up with new ideas and are under pressure to find ways to re-engage disaffected customers.
Econsultancy's Social Media and Online PR Report recently stated that micro-blogging websites like Twitter are now the most widely adopted social media tactic, used by 78 per cent of company respondents.
