Family life: Looking after wallets will help avoid fraud this Christmas

People need to make sure they look after their credit and debit cards when going out to do Christmas shopping, according to one expert who said that doing this will help shoppers avoid fraud.

Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at security specialist CPP, said that people should make sure they are vigilant when buying their gifts this yuletide, because credit card fraud cases increase during the festive period and affect family life.

"If you are only going to use maybe one or two cards to buy your presents with then that's all you need to take with you. Don't carry your card in your pocket. Make sure it is safely tucked away safely into your purse or your wallet," the expert explained.

A recent survey by CPP found that 21 per cent of people said their credit or debit card has been lost and 31 per cent have been a victim of card fraud as a consequence of their possessions being stolen.
