People considering investing in their family life this New Year and making home improvements are likely to use exciting and fresh colours in their renovation work, according to one expert.
Julia Goodwin, editor at House Beautiful magazine, said that people will combine striking colours with grey backdrops, which she thinks will replace the nation's obsession with cream.
"There are some very citrusy, zingy colours going around - greens, bright limes, olive, citrus yellow. All those colours look great with a grey backdrop," she stated.
Ms Goodwin added that people will also invest in colourful accessories, like curtains, to decorate their abodes and predicts that stripes will be popular in 2010.
A recent survey by Screwfix revealed that a fifth of men have tried putting up a shelf only to stand back and find it is not straight, whilst 32 per cent have damaged a wall trying to hang a picture.
