The UK government has taken big steps forward in understanding the inner workings of family life, according to one expert, who said that there is still room for improvement.
Jenny North, head of public policy at Relate, said that when it comes to children and family issues, the authorities have taken a big step forward.
"What we want to see is ideas and commitment to supporting strong relationships through the life cycle. So that's starting with support and guidance in schools for children, including relationship education," she stated.
The expert said that support for people in relationships could be improved and she would like to see the government offer more accessible services for couples who are struggling, especially if they have young children.
Relate recently published research which found that the average woman is likely to be significantly older when she marries than her mother was.
