Parental advice: Kids are going to love smartbooks

People looking for parental advice could get ahead of the trend and purchase a smartbook for their kids, according to one expert, who said that youngsters will love the new technology.

Franck Nicholls, marketing manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Freescale, said that the smartbooks, which attempt to bridge the gap between smartphones and laptops, will be popular with kids because of the range of options they offer.

"The expected users for smartbooks want intuitive, trendy, and powerful devices that become extensions of themselves. Staying connected and being constantly up-to-date with their social networking sites is of great importance to them," he stated.

Mr Nicholls added that young people will be familiar with the kind of technology used in devices and take to them because of this.

Research by Strategy Analytics predicts that in 2014, almost half of mobile broadband net subscriber additions will be on devices other than mobile phones, like smartphones.
