Healthy family recipes: Tea could combat tumours

Drinking five cups of tea or coffee everyday could help people to stop tumours developing, according to a new study, which suggested the drink could starve the growths of the oxygen they need to develop.

The study, which was published in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention journal, looked into how the drinking habits of glioma patients affected the progression of their tumours.

"When they compared their caffeine-drinking habits to patients without brain tumours, they found that those who drank five or more teas or coffees a day were 40 per cent less likely to have cancer," the Daily Mail stated.

The study showed that drinking decaffeinated versions of the hot drinks did not have the same noticeable effect on the patients' tumours.

People wanting to create healthy family recipes could start using spices in their food if they want to reduce the risk of developing cancer, according to a group at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
