People who want to improve their family health need to ensure that they do not drink too much alcohol, according to one expert, who said that the whole country has a problem with the substance.
Dr. Rachel Seabrook, research manager at the Institute of Alcohol Studies, said that pricing of alcohol means a lot of people can afford to drink every night if they want, which leads to problems.
"We do find that increasing numbers of middle-class drinkers that drink at home are drinking larger quantities of alcohol without really realising they are doing it, so yes, it is a problem," she said.
The expert added there have been alcohol consumption increases all over the UK in the past year.
In other news, the NHS Confederation and the Royal College of Physicians recently released a report which showed that the UK spent approximately £2.7 billion in 2006/07 treating alcohol-related problems.
