Parents trying to put together healthy family recipes might want to use fish oil in their food after new research showed that the substance could help to treat some forms of mental illness.
The study, which was published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, found that omega-3 fish oil was beneficial to patients suffering from a range of conditions, including schizophrenia.
A Rethink spokesperson said that although the report is positive, more research has to be completed before people replace their current treatment with fish oil substitutes.
"There isn't enough evidence to suggest that fish oils could replace antipsychotics. More research is needed but we already know that medication is not the only mode of treatment for schizophrenia," she added.
Recently, the Daily Mail reported that curry ingredients such as turmeric, cumin, allspice, cardamom, ginger, garlic and capsicum all have strong anti-bacterial properties and are popular in hot countries where meat needs to preserved.
