Family holiday: Northumberland has great attractions

People planning a family holiday should consider an area of Northumberland which is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of philanthropist Lord Armstrong, according to one expert.

Sheelagh Caygill, spokesperson for Visit Northumberland, said that Cragside is the place to be this summer alongside other north-east areas like Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and Alnwick Garden and Castle.

"There are a lot of events going on around the county at half-term ... it is what the county's known for and when people come here and they pick up more information they see that there is lots more to see," she stated.

Ms Caygill added that at the moment the north-east is seeing higher visitor numbers, with more UK holidaymakers enjoying staycations in the region.

British holidaymakers are putting the North East back on the map as they flock to the region for holiday breaks, according to accommodation directory iKnow-uk.
