People considering putting some fun into their family life could be influenced by the trend for white and black furniture to be combined, according to one expert, who said the look will be all the rage this year.
Carolyn Trevor, interior designer and member of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID), said that combination can produce an "urban edginess" that makes a big statement.
"I like to use black and white including splashes of vibrant colour. [It] makes a bold, graphic effect. This look for 2010 is heavily influenced by the global economic meltdown and this particular mix gives the look an urban edginess," she stated.
The combination of simple colours can also give a theatrical look to a property, according to the expert.
Homeowners could also be influenced by restaurateur Ruth Rogers, who used spacing and modernist furniture to create an impressive abode.

"I totally agree with the effect being dramatic - I changed my kitchen 2 years ago to black and white and find it still looks as effective as it did when it was first done - love it!"
