People looking to get some good parental advice regarding the language skills of their children should make sure they do not rely solely on their child's school to enhance their communication skills, according to one expert, who said that should begin at home.
Sue Fieldman, regional editor of the Good Schools Guide, stated that poor communication at home must also be blamed for a child's lack of adequate language skills.
"Schools are really only a secondary source of communication skills. It is what the children learn at home and communicate at home that is the crucial element to learning how to interact with society," she said.
The expert added that children's obsession with computer games must take a portion of blame, because these games do not encourage interaction with other people.
According to I CAN, around 50 per cent of parents do not have enough time to communicate with their children as much as they would like to.
