Expert: 'We do not live in a child-friendly society'

People looking for parental advice can face disapproving looks if they fail to keep their children under control at all times, according to one expert, who said that this should not be the case.

Catherine Hanly, a parenting writer, said that most parents would say that the UK is not a child-friendly society and she blames people's inability to communicate with children.

"From the looks we get if we are in supermarkets or public places if our child is anything other than silent or obedient, people look at the parents and make us feel unwelcome," she stated.

The expert added that some people do not know how to act around children and because of this, their initial reaction might be a negative one.

According to a new study, Understanding Children's Wellbeing: A National Survey of Young People's Wellbeing, a child's well being is influenced by family conflict rather than family structure.
