Parents who are sceptical about the International GCSEs (IGCSEs) should think twice, according to one expert, who said the qualifications can help the brightest students shine.
Nick Seaton, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education (CRE), said that the new exams could give high flying students the opportunity to show their true potential and change family life.
"It is a matter of horses for courses. It [an IGCSE] would allow the brighter pupils to show what they know in a harder exam and those with less ability can do one which will suit them better," he stated.
The CRE chairman added that the qualifications will help to improve educational standards across the UK and get young people ready for tougher A-level and AS-level exams.
Geoff Lucas, general secretary for The Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, recently said that the new IGCSEs mean that there could be more options for students who want a challenge.
