People looking for consumer advice when deciding on new eco-friendly products will have help from a new scheme, which one organisation said will remove confusion from labels and packaging.
Claire Gibson, senior press officer for the Energy Retail Association, said that Ofgem's green energy certification scheme is intended to regulate companies selling green products.
"The new scheme will reassure customers about what is available to them in terms of green tariffs and will hopefully increase their confidence with their buying choices and give them a bit more knowledge which will help them compare what is out there," she stated.
Ms Gibson added that the scheme will encourage companies to be innovative when coming up with new products.
Under the green energy certification initiative suppliers must show that their 'green tariff' goes beyond what they are already required to do to meet existing government targets on sourcing more renewable energy.
