People concerned about their family's health need to ensure that they tell their loved ones to wrap up warm, especially if they suffer from heart conditions, according to one expert.
Cathy Ross, a cardiac nurse with the British Heart Foundation, said that people at risk from heart conditions need to keep themselves as warm as possible because ailments like angina can be brought on by low temperatures.
"Dressing warmly in winter and trying to avoid spending long periods of time in extremely low temperatures will help to reduce your risk of an angina attack, heart attack or stroke if you already have heart disease," she said.
The expert added that cold weather can lead to an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn can trigger angina attacks.
Dr Rachel Seabrook, research manager at the Institute of Alcohol Studies, recently said that the current pricing of alcohol means a lot of people can afford to drink every night if they want, which leads to health problems.
