Changes to the way alcohol is labelled in the UK could help people to make better decisions regarding their family health, according to one expert.
A spokeswoman for Alcohol Concern said that the government's plans to consider changing the way alcohol is packaged is definitely a step in the right direction and is something the UK should be implementing.
"It is a good thing, because it enables people to make informed decisions. It wouldn't have an impact on binge drinking as such but hopefully it will allow people to make healthier decisions," she stated.
The representative added that mandatory measures would ensure consumers have all the information they need to keep themselves safe and healthy.
According to the Department of Health, the drinks industry is failing to adhere to a voluntary agreement with the government on alcohol labels and just 15 per cent of drinks give consumers enough information about units and health risks.
More about family health.
