Government initiatives like Change4Life are "fantastic" as they boost family health but they could be improved, an expert has claimed.
Rich Leigh, founder of health and weight loss firm Fat Free Fitness, said that the scheme should be more far-reaching and more can be done to improve health and nutrition education in schools.
He explained that a class like this could boost family health as it would make young people "more aware of how and why nutrition can affect pretty much every aspect of their lives".
The expert added that given the chance he would dispel a few myths on nutrition and health, such as that sit-ups do not lead to a flat stomach.
Mr Leigh said that if the information was given at grassroots level then crash diets would be eliminated and young teenage girls might not be so focused on being thin.
His comments follow a study from the National Centre for Social Research, released last year, which showed that more people are taking recommended levels of physical activity and eating healthy food, but they are still in a minority.
More about family health.
