People should check the ingredients in their beauty products to ensure that they are not being duped by expensive packaging, an expert has claimed.
Claire Lilley, senior policy adviser at Which?, said that people should check their beauty items in the same way that they look at food ingredients.
She advised people to compare cheaper and more expensive products to ensure that they are not just being sucked in by the look of the item.
"Quite often what you are paying for is expensive and glamorous packaging and actually the product inside has fundamentally got the same active ingredients in it," she added.
Her comments follow recent trials which showed that lower-cost products like Olay's Professional Pro-X anti wrinkle cream and Boots' No 7 brand Protect & Perfect Serum performed as well as the leading prescription item.
Ms Lilley added that publishing these testing results is "really brilliant" as is gives consumers information and is transparent about the products.
