People considering their family health should try to reduce their stress levels if they want to avoid diabetes, after research showed links between the two conditions.
Researchers from the University of Edinburgh found that stress can increase the chances that someone will develop diabetes, but one organisation said the link needs to be looked into further.
A spokesperson for the Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust (IDDT) said: "We don't feel that this particular research proves conclusively that an increased risk of memory loss is caused by the disease."
The IDDT spokesperson added that diabetes is too complicated a disease to be influenced by one element and said factors such as different insulin types must be considered.
Researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied more than 900 men and women aged between 60 and 75 with type two diabetes, which tends to be common after the age of 40, when they completed the study.
