Consumer advice: Pre-paid credit cards could be good alternative

People looking for consumer advice may want to opt for a prepaid credit card, according to one expert, who said they can stop customers from getting into vast amounts of debt.

David Rodger, managing director of the national charity the Debt Advice Foundation, said that pre-paid cards do not allow people to overspend and force them to stay within their means.

"One of the main advantages of prepaid credit cards is that they avoid the accumulation of credit card debt by preventing the owner from spending more than they have loaded onto the card," he stated.

The expert added that people should always consider administration charges that may be involved when opting for a prepaid card.

New research from Unbiased.co.uk showed that as a nation, we will spend the first 50 days of 2010 just to earn enough money to pay off the interest on our debts.
