When it comes to reading girls enjoy it more than boys in their family life, according to one expert, who said research clearly supports her stance.
Christina Clark, head of research at the National Literacy Trust, said that boys tend to respond more to graphic novels and comics than straightforward novels and books.
"The results of our National Literacy Trust surveys conducted over the past five years have consistently reached the same conclusion - girls enjoy reading more than boys do," she stated.
Ms Clark added that in the research boys reported that they read in order to progress in life, whereas girls said they read for fun and actually enjoyed the process.
According to Booked Up, more dads read with their children than in previous years, as there has been a 40 per cent increase since September 2008 in fathers doing this, and 60 per cent of children like to share a book with their parents as it shows that they like to spend time with them.
More about family life.
