Complementary therapies can improve family health

People wanting to improve their family's health should consider complementary therapies, according to one expert, who said they can help boost a person's general fitness and wellbeing.

Mr Michael Dooley, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, said that complementary therapies can help people to give up negative parts of their diet, such as coffee and alcohol.

"Some, such as acupuncture, may directly affect how well conventional treatments are going to work. I am convinced that the way forward for women's healthcare is an integrated approach, looking after the whole person," he said.

The expert added that remaining passive while a doctor prescribes a course of treatment might not be the best course of action to improve a person's health.

In other news, the British Fertility Society recently issued new guidelines in the journal Human Fertility on the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in fertility treatment.
