People considering their travel options within the UK should try Liverpool, according to an expert, who said that the destination offers great culture and is easily accessed.
David Andrews, director of visitor economy for The Mersey Partnership, said that the great transport links to the city, with services from London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street only taking two hours, make it very accessible.
"[The] Liverpool City Region is a thriving, stylish, vibrant city break destination with a fascinating history. Strong maritime links, excellent culture and an unrivalled passion for music and sport ensures Liverpool [is a big attraction]," he stated.
Mr Andrews added that Liverpool is home to more museums and galleries than any other UK city region outside of London, and therefore culture plays a major part in the destination's makeup.
According to research from VisitBritain London again dominates the UK's domestic city break with 6.6 million visits between 2006 and 2009.
