Healthy family recipes can be enjoyed on the barbecue

Groups looking to get out and enjoy the summer with a barbecue in their back garden have been told that they can take advantage of healthy family recipes.

Tom Kitchen, writing for the Scotsman, said that one of summer's greatest pleasures is eating outside, whether it is having a picnic in the woods, a barbecue in the garden or a family feast on the beach.

He went on to say that barbecuing was also a great way to introduce children to new foods.

Picking out a couple of recipes, Mr Kitchen recommended barbecued seam bream, using a fennel bulb, lemon, dill, basil, olive oil and fennel seeds to make a marinade.

He provided instructions for an accompanying pasta and pesto salad.

Using two garlic cloves, two teaspoons of pine nuts, olive oil, pasta, a jar of pesto, basil and parmesan cheese, the salad can be served up with most barbecued items.

Other healthy barbecued favourites include grilled peppers and vegetable kebabs, which could be made using mushrooms, shallots, tomatoes and courgette.
