The popularity of the pork pie is not something that the UK should be worried about, according to one of its top female sports stars, who said as long as it is included in a balanced diet there will be no problem.
Sharron Davies, MBE, sportswoman and TV personality, said that people can eat food, such as pork pies, in healthy family recipes as long as they do not consume too many.
"If you've got an active lifestyle it is quite surprising what you can actually eat and [you can] enjoy yourself. Getting too worked up about food is not a good thing. It's leading that sensible, moderate attitude with everything that's really important," she stated.
The former swimmer added that people should be able to eat healthily and support British farmers at the same time.
According to research released by Love Pork, thirty-two per cent of people say a picnic is not a picnic without a traditional pork pie.
