Children from low-income families are set to receive a helping hand and a boost in their family life when it comes to education, following the government's announcement on Monday that they will be providing schools with extra funding.
The grants, known as pupil premiums, will be paid to schools to encourage good establishments to take on poorer children and to help raise the academic achievement of less well-off pupils.
Imran Hussain, head of policy, rights and advocacy at Child Poverty Action Group, said this, alongside other tactics, will do more to get children into the classroom and performing at the same level as children from all backgrounds and family lifes.
"The best way of closing the educational divide is to provide families with the resources they need to enable their children to thrive at school and achieve their full potential," he said.
Mr Hussain added that politicians should also focus on putting money into the pockets of low-income families in order to narrow the educational divide.
