Family health: Fast food chains to offer healthy kids menus

Fast foods chains are battling against their unhealthy image by embracing new children's menus which could be a boost to family health.

The Independent reported that chains such as McDonalds and KFC are introducing healthier meals containing more fruit and vegetables.

One example given is Burger King's children's breakfast which includes an egg and cheese muffin sandwich, apple fries and apple juice, and meets their newly-introduced nutrition criteria for children.

McDonalds, following suit have introduced a new range of 'mighty kid's meals' which contain between 470 and 670 calories and include fruit bags and carrot sticks as healthy alternative snacks.

This will come as good news to parents concerned with family health and the impact of fast food upon their children.

Parents were recently told that they should ensure they keep an eye on their family health when abroad, as unexpected illness can ruin a break, according to Dr Sarah Brewer and Fiona Joyce from the Panadol Panel of Dr Mums.

More about family health.
