Families concerned about parental advice have been reassured that teaching their children at home is a fun and informative way of ensuring they perform better in school.
Rachel Foster from Mumsnet said many parents have a lack of confidence when it comes to sharing knowledge with their children, but she reiterated that they do not have to get it immediately right, they can investigate and learn with their children.
"The more children learn at home, the better they will do at school the two go hand in hand. We think that it can be a lot of fun as well," she said.
Ms Foster recommended scientific experiments that can be done at home as ways of parents to help their children learn in a fun way, which shows the children how to investigate rather than telling them what is right and wrong.
Research for the Shell Education Service, was carried out on Mumsnet and found three-quarters of parents recognise that talking to their children about science at home makes a massive difference to their progress at school.
